We've been doing limited 'curbside' pickups for physical items. Some of our regular users are SO glad to get hold of new reading material.

April Davies (me) is co-presenting a preconference session on Tenure and Promotion for the SUNYLA conference.

Katherine Brent continues to put in many hours of work as co-chair of the college's Middle States committee.

The library will be closed all summer which hasn't happened since we were shut down for renovation several years ago. We're all still working of course, mostly from home for now.

The HVCC campus remains closed. Faculty and staff have limited building access. The library's new reserve textbook excerpt service has been well received. Temporary OER Librarian, Sarah Romeo will be giving a lightening talk on Supporting OER Sustainability by Educating Faculty on Creative Commons Licensing at this year's SUNYLA conference.

Caterina Reed joined the University Libraries as Instructional Support Associate in Acquisitions starting June 1, 2020. Caterina recently completed her Master's degree in Information & Library Science from SUNY-Buffalo and also holds a Master's degree in English from Stony Brook University. She completed a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature from Stony Brook. Caterina's previous work experience includes Acquisitions Assistant at Adelphi University and Administrative Coordinator at the Montessori School at Old Field in Setauket.

On April 16, 2020, Abigail Streeter joined the Stony Brook University Libraries as the new Electronic Resources Librarian. Abigail’s most recent position was as a Library Media Specialist for Tonawanda City School District. At Tonawanda High School, she has managed the library program for the school, including collection development, instruction, and management of periodicals and electronic resources. Previously Abigail worked for the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in the Veterans Benefits Administration’s Education Service. Abigail holds a Master of Library Science from the University of Buffalo and a Master of Science in Sports Management from Niagara University.

Vanessa Mitchell started on April 30, 2020 as one of our Part Time Supervisors in the Access & User Services department.. Vanessa holds a Master's Degree from Brooklyn College and a Bachelor's Degree from St John's University. Her past experience consists of managing a Medical Aesthetics Spa and before that she was working as an office manager for Medrite Urgent Care. Over Vanessa's career she has been awarded certifications in CPR, AED, and is a Certified Phlebotomist.

Keith Krejci retired on April 29, 2020. Keith started his career at Stony Brook University in 1982 in the Printing Services Department as a machine operator. A few years later, he was promoted to floor supervisor where he assisted with the trials and decision-making on new printing equipment to better serve the University. Starting in 1989, he became a CSEA Union shop steward and helped bring about a much-needed ventilation system and safer working conditions in the Print Shop.
In 2002, Keith joined SBU Libraries as a Senior Library Clerk and has staffed almost every branch of the Libraries, assisting patrons with patent and other searches.  He helped digitize the entire collection of College of Engineering & Applied Sciences Technical Reports which are now in ContentDM.  He assisted with the migration of the Computer Science collection into the Science & Engineering collection, and was actively involved in the 2016 North Reading Room renovation. We wish Keith a happy retirement!

Anastasia Chiu has resigned their position as Cataloging & Metadata Librarian to pursue a new career opportunity at NYU. Anastasia’s last day on the job was May 1. Anastasia joined the Libraries in June 2017 bolstered the Cataloging and Metadata Services department’s migration efforts by co-organizing the department's self-training, by gathering information on SUNY-level policies and activities, and by implementing many of SUNY’s policies at the institutional level. They were the primary cataloger for music scores and physical-format audio and video recordings, and contributed strongly to the department's efforts to reinstate Stony Brook Libraries' status as a contributor to the prestigious Library of Congress Program for Cooperative Cataloging. Anastasia also co-authored Developing a Residency Program: A Practical Guide for Librarians, published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2019. We extend our best wishes to Anastasia.

Resnick Library has been closed (physically) since the end of March, and will continue to be so through the summer.  We are looking at opening again in August, although no concrete plans have been set. We are still providing virtual services to students, faculty, and staff.

We have been engaging with patrons via Facebook and Twitter - using our word of the day posts that would normally be done in the building, Stress Less LibGuide to replicate our end of year programming, and a Peeps visit to the library.

Carrie Fishner (me) is co-presenting at the Tenure & Promotion Boot-camp for SUNYLA 2020 Annual Conference.
Amanda Calabrese achieved promotion to Associate Librarian, and Steve Dixon achieved promotion to Librarian.
Jennifer Collins was awarded the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Librarianship.
Katelyn Baroody and Liz Santobuono presented "Wizards, Jedi, and Gamers, Oh My!: Library Con on a Limited Budget" at the virtual conference, Big Talk from
