Hello SUNYLA!
Welcome to our first completely virtual SUNYLA Council meeting. We are in some very strange times with the COVID-19 pandemic. I know that for myself, it has been challenging to settle into a work-from-home schedule, especially with a young child at home!
In addition to providing some SUNYLA updates, I’d like to use this post to share some valuable resources related to COVID-19.
Update 1: The SUNYLA Midwinter Virtual Conference had its biggest year yet! Thank you to Jill Locascio (Planning Team Chair, TDG Chair), and team members Carrie Marten (SUNY Purchase), Jessica McGivney (SUNY Farmingdale), and Jennifer Parker (SUNY Cortland) for helping to plan such a great event! Please see Jill Locascio’s forum post for more information about SUNYLA Midwinter

Update 4: Negotiations over the ScienceDirect journal package are coming to a close. Thank you so much to all of the members of the negotiating team for all of their hard work!
Update 5: I’m continuing to work on the Cafe Press site. I’ll share more information at our next Council meeting.
Update 6: Jennifer DeVito (Stony Brook) and I served on the SLC Professional Development Subcommittee for scholarships to the Sienna Leadership Institute. Congratulations to the five recipients of the scholarship! The recipients of the scholarship are Michelle Beechy (Monroe CC), Sarah Morehouse (Empire), Mona Ramonetti (Stony Brook), Esta Tovstiadi (OLIS), and Rachel Turner (Binghamton).
Resources for COVID-19:
There have been a lot of different resources coming across listservs regarding free resources, mental health, and Alma/Primo related to COVID-19. I’d like to share a few resources with you. First is a message from Ken Fujiuchi, chair of the SUNY Libraries Consortium:
-------
To all SLC Members,
The SUNY Libraries Consortium Board of Directors endorses the recommendation of the Association of College & Research Libraries, and the American Library Association in supporting the safety and well-being of library workers and the communities we serve by calling for the closure of library buildings until the risk from COVID-19 is significantly reduced.
As academics we understand the special role that libraries play on campus and are encouraged that so many SUNY schools consider the library to be such an essential part of their program. And we take pride in providing consistently reliable service of the highest caliber. Yet, given the uncertainties pertaining to the current global public health pandemic, we call on all SUNY campuses to close their library buildings for the duration of the crisis.
