Promotion & Tenure ad hoc
« on: March 14, 2019, 01:25:15 PM »
The Promotion and Tenure Ad Hoc Committee met on 3/14/19 to clarify our charge and to create an action plan moving forward. After some discussion, we decided that our role is primarily that of mentoring our colleagues through the process of promotion and tenure. As such, we will seek to recruit more seasoned library staff who will be members of our pool from which those going through the process can reach out to.

We will also offer a session (either a panel or a SIG session) at SUNYLA 2019 as a group mentoring opportunity. We think it would be nice if this could become an annual session.

We also discussed working with UUP and the A48 committee if it is re-commissioned to collect examples of promotion and tenure policies across the SUNY libraries for reference (for our purposes this would purely be in the case of when campuses are reviewing their own policies or are looking to start discussions on making changes and wish to have ready access to what other libraries are doing).

The last item discussed was to present a resolution to the SUNYLA, which if passed would be presented to the Board of the SLC, to have all newly hired tenure-track librarians be given relevant information about the tenure and promotion process on their campus within a week of their appointment (see attached).
