Professional Development Committee Report

I. Professional Development Grants Subcommittee (Lisa Errico, Chair)
The Professional Development Grants Subcommittee awarded two grants since the last Council meeting to the following applicants:
Michelle Costello, SUNY Geneseo
Amount: $500.00
Proposed Activity: Attendance and presentation at the Annual ALA Conference in Orlando, Florida 6/23/16-6/28/16.
Logan Rath, SUNY Brockport
Amount: $500
Proposed Activity: Attendance to the Learning and Brain Conference in Orlando Florida from 4/6/16-4/10/16.
II. Conference Awards (Kim Myers, Chair)
The Professional Development Conference Awards Subcommittee met on 2/1/16 to discuss the following recommendations that we would like to put forth for Council action:
Regarding Sylvia Chu eligibility – Presenters in the past were ineligible to apply for this scholarship, since their registration fee was waived. This has been changed to a 25% waiver. We recommend removing the criteria that “An applicant is not a session presenter.”
Regarding Daniel Kissane eligibility (now only open to current MLS students) - open up eligibility for recent graduates who are not yet employed, as well.
Regarding the selection of scholarship recipients – The subcommittee recommends to the Council that the function of this committee is to evaluate applications and select recipients. We would also like to know in advance (depending on how much $ is in the fund) how many scholarships the Council would like to award each year, and the committee will work with that number to determine recipients.
III. Friend of SUNYLA Award (Greg Bobbish)
A call for nominations will be sent out shortly.
IV. Funding Requests
Funding will need to be approved for the Friend of SUNYLA Award (usually about $550).
Funding will also need to be approved for number of Sylvia Chu and Dan Kissane recipients this year.
V. Professional Development Chair-End of Term
My term as Chair of the Professional Development Committee expires in June.
