After the last council meeting, a call went out for volunteers to serve on the Ad-Hoc Advocacy Committee that will be partnering with the SCLD Advocacy group. There were 12 responses from librarians who are willing to serve on the committee. I volunteered to serve as chair.
I met with SCLD President, Mark McBride, and virtually attended one of the SCLD Advocacy group meetings. This is what SCLD has identified as their charges:
SCLD will advocate for SUNY Libraries, promoting the value of libraries within SUNY and state-wide.
3.1. SCLD will develop a marketing strategy and public relations plan.
3.1.1.Write an elevator speech for value of SUNY libraries
3.1.2.Develop a plan to meaningfully engage SUNY Administration at Spring 2016 meeting
3.1.4.Obtain a SUNY Libraries web presence on the
www.suny.edu website
3.2.1.Inventory the roles libraries are currently taking on their campuses with Open SUNY
The SCLD Advocacy group assigned a few of their members to each charge. The next step will be for me to pair up the SUNYLA representatives with the SCLD representatives on each of the charges, so that SUNYLA has representation in each of these areas and can contribute to raising the profile of SUNY Libraries.
