Since our last Council meeting, SCFC has met twice, once during the SCLD Fall meeting last month, and again earlier today.
SCLD is reexamining the role that SCFC plays and if it should (once again) be renamed or if it should be turned into something else. Right now, SCFC has been tasked with looking at electronic resource expenditures across SUNY in preparation for the RFP process for a new Library Management system.
While some contracts are shared SUNY-wide, there are a lot of unknowns from campuses that may have their own individual contracts for services like link resolvers and discovery layers. One current task is filling in all of these unknown costs to get a clearer picture of what needs to be done moving forward. Many of the systems currently available incorporate services we currently pay outside vendors for, so examining the cost comparisons between what we're all currently paying for resources vs. what the costs will be when a new system is implemented is crucial.
SCFC is also looking at several other items including various business models for shared services and resources, the relationship between SCLD and OLIS/SUNYConnect and Libraries, and the ELD Contract renewal and the possibility of changing the pricing model in some way for campuses.
