Re: News from LACUNY
Date: September 26, 2014

LACUNY is just getting started for the new academic year. We have new leadership – Steven Ovadia (LaGuardia Community College) is our president for 2014-15. Ian Beilin (City Tech) is the vice president; Kelly Blanchat (Queens College) is the secretary; Geraldine Hébert (Bronx Community College), who is also a long-time evening librarian at SUNY Maritime, is the treasurer.

Over the summer, we reached out to strengthen our ties to the library school at Queens College. We now have plans to make regular appearances at new student orientation, as guest speakers at the introduction to librarianship course, professional guidance through the library school’s student organization, and facilitate stronger mutual outreach between the library school and individual campuses.

CUNY is moving ahead with the Digital Commons institutional repository. An instance is already running at the Graduate Center, and it is expected to roll out CUNY-wide in the near future. CUNY Office of Library Services (“CUNY Central Office”) is closing in on hiring a scholarly communications librarian to support this service. We are now starting to include the institutional repository into our digital asset management planning.

Our annual conference LACUNY Institute will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015, at John Jay College. Information forthcoming.
