LACUNY Report
« on: June 10, 2013, 10:47:48 AM »
From: Kimmy Szeto, Liaison to LACUNY
To: SUNYLA Council
Date: June 7, 2013

LACUNY is now on break for the summer. Election results are in, and are posted below.

At the last meeting of the academic year on May 17, we were a bit pre-occupied by the news from the library school at Queens College (GSLIS). The ALA voted on April 13 to withdraw its accreditation, citing inadequate "comprehensive planning process" (and nothing else). The case is currently going through the appeal process (which can take months). Current students will receive an accredited degree if they complete course work by the end of the spring 2015 semester. But there are many other ramifications. LACUNY is very concerned about this, and has formed a committee reaching out to GSLIS students and faculty.

It has been a great pleasure serving as the liaison to LACUNY. I will be transitioning to CUNY Baruch College in July, and (guess what?) the LACUNY president has already appointed me to be a liaison to SUNYLA (sharing duties with Frans Albraillo from Brooklyn College). I look forward to continue exchanging news and discussions between the two organizations.
