Hi, all!

We have some exciting new developments at SUNY Delhi that I'd like to share:

1. We recently subscribed to LibraryH3lp in order to strengthen our virtual chat reference service. With the adoption of this service, we have integrated text reference capabilities and have received several texts from students and faculty already! Feel free to text us at (607) 333-7477.

4. In collaboration with our Health and Counseling Center on campus, an exhibit entitled "The Lives they Left Behind" has been installed on the first floor of the library. Exhibit panels and a video explain the lives of institutionalized patients, shedding light on the tragedy of how mental illness was and, in some places, is still dealt with. The F. Franklin Moon Library at SUNY-ESF seeks a forward-thinking assistant librarian to serve as the Library’s Interlibrary Loan and Collections Management Specialist. This position is responsible for interlibrary loan, document delivery, and acquisitions using a patron request driven model for collection development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Library Director and other Library staff to explore and implement the use of emerging technologies for rapid fulfillment of patron information needs. This position will also participate in reference rotations, provision of information literacy instruction, departmental liaison program, and other library activities as assigned.                                                                                                   

Primary Responsibilities Include: 
In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities required for an Assistant Librarian, the following knowledge skills and abilities may also be required:

•   Manage all aspects of interlibrary loan, including OCLC ILLiad software, holdings queues and other features.
•   Serve as IDS Project contact, as well as primary information vendor contact.
•   Maintain awareness of issues and advances in interlibrary loan, resource sharing, and related library services.
•   Train ILL staff and student assistants.
•   Manage provision of Document Delivery Services.
•   Manage acquisitions of all electronic subscriptions, print resources, and other materials.
•   Management of gifts and donations of materials to the library.
•   Interact with various vendors and suppliers of information resources.
•   Utilize numerous complex research resources such as online catalogs and databases, finding aids, reference sources, technical manuals, etc. to perform job responsibilities.
•   Explore, Implement, and troubleshoot patron-initiated purchasing workflows.
•   Track, compile, analyze, and interpret financial and non-financial statistics.
•   Participate in library-wide planning and serve on campus-wide committees and task forces.
•   Be active professionally and contribute to developments in the field.

Required Qualifications:
•   MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited Library Science program and library or related work experience.
•   Strong Analytical and budget management skills.
•   Ability to successfully initiate, track, and manage projects.
•   Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with faculty, students, vendors and academic administrators.
•   Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•   Ability to use independent judgment, effective organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
•   A second Masters degree in a STEM subject area.
•   Experience with ILLiad, OCLC, integrated library management systems, MS Office suite and current interlibrary loan standards and practices.
•   Experience with developing academic research collections.
•   Ability to work across organizational boundaries.
•   General knowledge of discovery and delivery tools including ALEPH, Encore, ILLiad, bibliographic records and call numbering systems.
•   Prior academic library experience, including the delivery of information literacy instruction.
•   Experience providing reference/instructional services in an academic library setting, teaching experience, or knowledge of instructional methods.
•   Experience with LibGuides and RefWorks or similar tools
•   Excellent customer service skills.

The F. Franklin Moon Library ( supports the College’s specialized disciplines including biology, chemistry, engineering, forestry, environmental science, and landscape architecture. Offering over 135,500 volumes, access to more than 800 journal titles and vast electronic resources, the Moon library its collection by sharing recourses with neighboring Syracuse University, and with other SUNY campus libraries.  The Moon Library is a member of the IDS project (   The mission of the Moon Library is to provide information resources to the ESF community and to teach library users to learn independently.

A few highlights from Cobleskill...
We now have wireless printing thanks to an upgrade to our print management system. A popular and useful development.

The head of the library's tutoring center will be retiring at the end of the year. We have no word yet on whether the position will be filled or reconfigured or what.

To celebrate National Library Week, we are running a Peeps diorama contest: Book Title Peeps Show.

The Library's mascot, Lefty the Library Leopard, is developing a nice fan base. He's currently sporting bunny ears in anticipation of Easter.
