Join us at our Community Conversation on March 25 at 11:00 AM over Teams. The topic is Nuanced Discussions about AI. The link was sent over the SUNYLA listserv. Email jireland@mvcc.edu if you need the link. Registration is not required. SUNY AI Fellows Allison Hosier (SUNY Albany), Michelle Malinovsky (OCC), and Lauren deLaubell (SUNY Cortland) will lead the discussion.
Questions to ponder before the session:
How can we move beyond “all or nothing” in conversations about AI, while also honoring diverse perspectives and ethical stances?
What significant nuances should we be trying to capture in our conversations and instruction about AI, if we can?
What strategies or activities have worked to help students gain a better understanding of the core concepts of GenAI?
Subgroup reports:
Advancing AI Literacy
In fall the group reviewed existing AI literacy frameworks, identified core student learning outcomes, and mapped them to the SUNY General Education Information Literacy Competency.
This spring we are curating and creating instruction activities that align with our identified outcomes. If you have an activity you’d like to recommend, please contact co-chairs Lauren deLaubell (lauren.delaubell@cortland.edu) and Ken Fujiuchi (fujiuck@buffalostate.edu)
Microcredentials
The team spent the fall of 2025 defining and finalizing the SLOs for each microcourse.
We are currently working on designing the assessments for each microcourse.
The task force will be presenting at SUNYLA to share its updated progress.
We are aiming to have a completed suite by the end of summer/beginning of Fall 2026 semester.
Shared Repository
The Shared Repository group is collaborating with OLIS to develop a collection on SOAR to store information literacy instruction materials. We hope to go live in Fall 2026.
We are currently working on the submission form and guidelines, as well as accessibility requirements and the behind-the-scenes workflow.
You can help! Start examining your teaching materials and identify what you would like to share. Submitters will receive a letter of appreciation to include in yearly reports and promotion packets.
