Technology Users Group (TUG) Report
« on: November 16, 2011, 10:14:07 AM »
SUNYLA TUG has restarted as a LinkedIn group that can be found at the following link:

I also started a weekly update on a new tech tool I come across. This is mainly a discussion topic in the group that other members can participate in, but its mostly just me at the moment  :)

In our first big discussion, I asked the user group what they would like to see from TUG.

Systems Librarian Mentoring

What’s a good way to setup a mentoring system?

- Open Coffee Club model (http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/the_open_coffee_club_movement.php)
This would be a regular networking opportunity for people to talk about technology issues at their institutions, and to exchange ideas and solutions.
- Setup a mentor directory.

Non-Aleph Technology Unconference

Topics we can cover
- eBook strategy for SUNYLA
- User Experience
- Mobile Tech

What tools or strategies can we use to keep these tools/resources from overwhelming us?
- For instance, we have eBooks from Ebrary, NetLibrary (Ebsco) and now potentially EBL. We have databases from a dozen different providers who all have individualized user interfaces. We have the Aleph OPAC, the IDS Search, SUNY union catalog, and WorldCat Local.

General e-book best practices from around the state.
- How are e-books and e-readers being supported by librarians or staff?
- How are they being marketed?
- Is anyone considering Overdrive now that Amazon is behind them?

Mobile Technology
