Cataloging and Processing the College of St. Rose's Education Curriculum Collection was a major priority this summer. We added approximately 9400 items to our collection, making children's literature, educational manipulatives, and lesson kits available to students and faculty in our School of Education and our Information Science School Library program.
Albany Public Library/UAlbany Borrowing Partnership: Things are coming together with our borrowing partnership with our local public library. Our students can request APL cards using their UAlbany email addresses, and we are finalizing the process for providing APL users with UAlbany borrowing credentials. APL and the NYS State Library are tabling in the University Library and signing students up for library cards throughout the month of September.
Facilities and Spaces: we are working with Annum Architects on a library study that will inform master planning and renovations for the University Library, and we are continuing to refresh furniture and redesign library spaces.
Mary Nyce is joining the University Libraries as our new Head of Access Services on September 25th. We are in the final stages of search processes for multiple librarian positions.
Allison Hosier, Head of Information Literacy, was selected as one of the SUNY AI for the Public Goods Fellows.
We are making progress on incorporating the libraries in Brightspace, with a goal to have different types of presence and access for our librarians.
We are moving to follow the Provost office timeline and procedures for hiring faculty. Searches for faculty will be structured to have new hires start either in September or January. Offer letters will be sent from the Office of the Provost rather than from the Dean of Libraries. This provides our new library faculty with opportunities to participate in new faculty orientation and other supports.
We are working with the Provost’s office to provide new faculty with “startup packages” that we hope will help us enhance the offer package we can put forward.
We are providing MS365 Copilot licenses to 25 members of the Library. We will be creating a Teams space, and meeting periodically to share best practices.
Library programming is off to a great start this semester, we have hosted a banned books read out, constitution reading, game nights, an open house for our new curriculum collection, movie nights, and much more!
