SILC report
« on: November 14, 2024, 04:58:15 PM »
We’ve had two community conversations since our last council meeting.

October 2 we discussed how the addition of AI language to the SUNY GE Info Lit Competency affects librarians and our instruction. 52 people attended at its height. Here is a link to the conversation’s notes composed by Megan Benson: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1u2x489vkRADKTmzDEov30hw8oAVrF-X7ZXIp6mz5PRA/edit?usp=sharing. The SILC Board submitted feedback to SUNY on suggested revisions before the deadline regarding the addition of AI language to the Information Literacy Competency. However, we were disappointed to receive SUNY's October 10th memo, which stated that “revisions to the Information Literacy core competency are relatively minimal,” without detailing the specific changes or addressing why recommended revisions were not incorporated. This raises questions about the purpose of soliciting feedback if it is not actively considered or responded to.

October 30 our community conversation centered around the civic discourse competency. Here is a link to the conversation notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CgpA9d22ht4ofp-QpwnR6x5xD5SW8uDTnfsXNkekq-I/edit?usp=sharing.

We are accepting  proposals for our January 2025 Instruction Showcase. Proposals are due Dec. 16. Link to submit a proposal: https://forms.gle/UNNMJ4QHanyAziSZ9

Two save the dates for upcoming SILC events:
- End of semester informal community conversation: Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 10 A.M.
- Instruction Showcase: Monday, January 13 at 10 A.M.
Links will be shared through the listserv.
