SILC report
« on: June 10, 2024, 03:25:07 PM »
Since our last report we have had two more community conversations.
March’s topic was Charged Topics and Uncomfortable Conversations in the Classroom. A couple resources shared at that discussion include:
Constructive Dialogue Institute (https://constructivedialogue.org/what-is-constructive-dialogue)- shares ideas on bridging divides and having conversations that lead to understanding.
ACT UP (https://library.strose.edu/ACTUP) - method of evaluating resources. Discussion around changing “U” from unbiased to understanding bias, and “P” from privilege to power.

April’s community conversation topic was Bridging the Information Literacy Gap: Working with our K-12 Partners. Nicki Waskie-Laura from Broome Tioga BOCES and Janet Clarke and Christine Fena from SUNY Stony Brook were our guest speakers. Link to April Community Conversation Notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mzC994lTZaYpRYhrtIgylB7qnZo6wXnNalKZMa3P63o/edit?usp=sharing. Wonderful ideas were shared about partnering with BOCES and K-12 educators to promote information literacy.

We will have a meeting during the SIG session of the conference if anyone is interested in sharing your ideas on how to improve the committee or would like to learn more about it. We will be in Caudell 123 from 4-5 on Wednesday the 12th.
