President's Report
« on: June 12, 2023, 01:57:21 PM »
Welcome to the 2023 SUNYLA Annual Conference! So much planning and work goes into this conference. Thank you to 2nd Vice President/Conference Chair Jill Kehoe and her staff at the SUNY Maritime Stephen B. Luce Library for hosting. We are grateful to the committee chairs and members who worked on the planning, programming, registration, and local arrangements for their work pulling this conference together. I hope all of you attending are able to enjoy the beautiful SUNY Maritime grounds and the fantastic program this conference offers.

I attended the OLIS Advisory Committee meeting as the SUNYLA representative on May 1. Discussion continues on methods of communication with SUNY libraries, which I know has been a concern of some of our SUNYLA members. There will be quarterly OLIS update meetings that are open to all who are interested. Information about OLIS, including previous update webinars and links to Spotlight on SUNY Libraries recordings, can be found on the OLIS libguide: https://slcny.libguides.com/olis/about

The Delegate Toolkit on the SUNYLA site (https://sunyla.org/delegate-toolkit/) has been updated, using the feedback Adam and I received from the two delegate meetings we held this year. It’s a work in progress so please forward any feedback to me or Adam.

Also, with Bill Jones’ help, the Friend of SUNYLA award page is now on the dropdown menu under Professional Development. I also created a new page listing the names of the award winners: https://sunyla.org/friend-of-sunyla-award-recipients/

Logan Rath, chair of the Professional Development committee, and I circulated a survey related to professional development interests. The survey got 55 responses and indicated that respondees are interested in topics such as: leadership development, tech tips, training student workers, and outreach and programming. The majority of responses were in favor of virtual workshops. As a result of this survey, there will be a Community Conversation on Student Training held on Jun 29, 2023 from 12-1:30pm. Registration information was sent out on the SUNYLA listserv.

This is my last council report at SUNYLA president. Thank you so much for this opportunity. I enjoyed it and continue to be so appreciative of the collegiality that SUNYLA offers. I am looking forward to Adam Saunders’ leadership as the next SUNYLA president.

Respectfully submitted,

Jennifer DeVito
