Stony Brook University Libraries welcomes our new dean, Karim Boughida. Dean Boughida started on Thursday, 15 September. He comes to SBU from the University of Rhode Island (URI) where he was the dean since 2015. At URI, Dean Boughida was instrumental in implementing numerous initiatives, including a makerspace, an extended reality (XR) lab, and a data science teaching and research program. He is the vice-chair on the board of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and is fluent in Arabic, English, and French. He holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Montreal and a Bachelor's degree in library science from the University of Constantine (Algeria). The University Libraries is once again partnering with The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences to host SBUHacks, a 48-hour hackathon held in the Melville Library’s Central Reading Room.
Our 2022-2023 STEM Speaker Series begins this month with Dr. Christopher Gobler discussing his research on harmful algal blooms. “Decoding Harmful Algal Bloom with Molecular Tools” will be held on September 26, 2002 in the Special Collections Seminar Room (Melville Library).
