New Paltz update

Library Dean search committee work is done and now we wait for a campus announcement. Hopefully we will have a permanent library dean sometime in the spring.

The library (lead by Research & Education Librarians Jen Rutner and Kate Bellody) participated in de-stress events during finals and had a successful event. We served mid-day breakfast and hosted button making for students. Tons of students came to eat and make buttons! Check out our instagram (sunynplibrary) for photos and videos of the event. We are excited to keep participating and are looking into doing something for midterms.

We hired a new Circulation Manager with a start date in March. I will provide more details in the next campus update forum.

SUNY Morrisville congratulated Christine Rudecoff, Director of Libraries, on her retirement on December 9th. Chris had been a member of the SUNY Morrisville community since 2007, starting as an Instruction librarian, and then moving into the seat of Director of Libraries in 2010. Chris had also been a strong advocate for barrier-free access to information and the use of Open Education Resources at SUNY Morrisville. As director, Chris always maintained a student first approach to the library, ensuring that its space and services evolved to meet student needs as technologies and information access trends changed over time.

The search for a new director has begun and Systems & Electronic Resources Librarian Angela Rhodes (rhodesam@morrisville.edu) has taken over as interim.

Upstate Medical University

Cristina Pope is retiring from her position as Library Director at Upstate Medical University on Feb. 28th. She has guided the Health Sciences Library through many changes and transitions in her 19 years of leadership, and has always been a strong advocate for her staff. She will be missed, but we wish her all the best in her future adventures.

The library is in the process of reorganizing, and we have several colleagues who have taken on new leadership roles: Rebecca Kindon as Associate Director; Abigail Smith as Assistant Director for Research & Instruction; Olivia Tsistinas as Assistant Director for Engagement & Outreach; and Heidi Webb as Head of Discovery and Technology Services. Each of them has done incredible things for the library, and we are so grateful for their expertise and leadership.

We are excited to welcome a new staff member: Sherry Stauffer started her new role with us as Information Resources Assistant last month, and has already made big strides on some backlogged projects. Additionally, the library recently completed a round of interviews for a new Systematic Review Services Librarian, and hopes to be able to welcome a new hire in that role soon.

Stony Brook University campus updates
« Reply #4 on: January 18, 2023, 07:55:49 AM »
The Stony Brook University Libraries closed the Fall 2022 semester with two dog therapy events, one at the Southampton campus library and the other at the Melville Library on the main campus. The events are done in collaboration with SBU’s Counseling and Psychological Services department and are always popular with students.

On December 22, Access & User Services (AUS) staff member Charles Edwards started his new role as Student Employment Manager for the AUS department. In this role, Charles will help develop the training program for student employees and develop student supervisor skills for AUS staff.

On January 18, 2023, the University Libraries held a workshop reviewing the new requirements from the National Institutes of Health regarding grant applications and data management.

In collaboration with the Zuccaire Gallery and the Pollock-Krasner House, on January 25, 2023, the University Libraries will be hosting a discussion of the gallery’s current exhibit, Revisiting 5+1. SBU President Maurie McInnis will give introductory remarks. Dr. Courtney J. Martin, the Paul Mellon Director of the Yale Center for British Art and an alumna of Stony Brook University will discuss the exhibit and a moderated discussion will follow.

SUNY Brockport is now officially recognized as a university. The university's mission remains the same.

Drake Memorial Library has several active searches, including ones for a Systems and Discovery Librarian and Resource Sharing Associate.

Jamia Williams left Brockport to join the University of Utah.  During her time at Drake Memorial Library, Jamia served as Health Sciences Librarian.

To close the fall semester, the library engaged students with a range of activities and events, including a two-sentence horror story competition, a weeklong scavenger hunt, and extended hours and stress break activities for the end of semester crunch.

MVCC campus update

The Utica Campus library held a Welcome Back Social for faculty last week (the brain child of our Reference & Instruction Librarian Claire Ehrlich). The event was held during a three hour window. The plan was for faculty to visit the library before or after their department meetings for relaxing conversations and to discuss information literacy ideas. Coffee and cookies were served. It was a successful event. We got many familiar faces to visit, but they also brought along new faculty to socialize with library staff.

Our new User Experience Librarian, Molly Cameron, started a Library Student Advisors group last Fall. We didn't get a lot of participants in our first go, but they are an eager bunch filled with library love. Molly is utilizing Discord with the group for communication purposes.

Instruction Design Librarian, Jocelyn Ireland, organized a campus-wide book club on UDL taking place this semester. 23 people signed up. Looking forward some great conversations with faculty.

Greetings,
While we don't have lots of library updates right now, we do have an update to our school's name! We are now SUNY Buffalo State University.

It's very exciting, and I'm sure there will be no confusion between us and University at Buffalo

UAlbany Update

The University Library Current Periodicals Reading Room is being transformed into a multi-purpose event and study space. We're excited to have this room ready to host events for our campus's student research showcase at the end of April.

The Libraries offered extended hours for final exams at the end of the fall semester. In addition to later hours, the Libraries hosted stress less events for students during finals.

Kendall McGowan will be joining the Libraries on 1/23/23 as our new Access Services Evening Associate. Kendall comes to us from Siena College Library, and she is currently pursuing her MSIS degree at UAlbany.

Robert Sheedy and Emilie Wacogne joined the Access Services Department as Library Clerks II in late-November. Robert comes to us from the Albany Public Library, and Emilie was at the NYS DEC Library.

The University Libraries are undergoing a library-wide reorganization.

Delhi held a very successful Stress Less event over the last two weeks of the fall semester for students. Once again, the therapy dog visits were some of our most well attended.

The Librarians are meeting with the English Faculty to partner on how to meet the new SUNY GE Information Literacy requirement for the fall; we are hoping that we can find a good balance for the library involvement.

Director Carrie Fishner and Librarian Sarah Meisch-Lacombe will be presenting at LibLearnX in New Orleans next week on a joint program titled "Building Campus Partnerships with LibraryCon", unfortunately their co-presenter Dr. Peter Brusoe will be unable to join them in person.

SUNY Canton update

We do not have many updates as Spring semester starts up. We reorganized the second floor in order to open up the space more and showcase our collections. We also found out that we were awarded a grant in order to expand our DEISJ collection and textbooks.

SUNY Purchase.

Our semester began this past Wednesday, 1/18/23.  We have two new librarians: Lorraine LaPrade (Student Success Librarian), who began back in November, and Jamie Neudecker (Reference and Instruction Librarian, who began this month.  We are excited to have them both on board.  Please send them a welcome email if you can.  lorraine.laprade@purchase.edu, jamie.neudecker@purchase.edu.

We are working on putting together the search committee for a new director.  Please keep your eye out for the job posting.  Hopefully it will be posted in February.

Happy Spring semester Everyone! ;D

Monroe CC-

We are excited to begin the semester on Monday, 1/23 by returning to our former open hours on our Brighton Campus.  We had shortened hours and no evenings and Saturdays due to a staff shortage for the fall.  We are in the process of filling a library clerk position- hopefully within the next couple of weeks- which should help relieve some of the work overload.

Our laptop loan program is being revamped and we are currently working through the kinks with the help of SUNY.  With this change we hope the process will be more streamlined for students and library staff.

After a trial in the fall of a work from home option of one day per week for librarians, we now have the opprtunity to take two work from home days per week.  This adds additional dilemmas with reference coverage and instruction sessions, but we are confident that this flexibility will be beneficial in many ways.
