Stony Brook University Campus Updates
« Reply #1 on: March 24, 2022, 09:52:57 AM »
The University Libraries welcomed Charles Edwards in March. Charles will be working in the Access & User Services department as a supervisor at the Southampton and main campus libraries. Charles has a BA in Art History from Arizona State University and is working on a Master’s degree in Data and Marketing Analytics from Southern New Hampshire University.

In February, Jessica Infanzon joined the Access & User Services department as a Resource Sharing Associate. Jessica has years of experience at public libraries and is currently in the MLS program at Queens College.

Heath Martin, Associate Dean for Collection Strategy and Management, left Stony Brook University in March. During his tenure, Heath led a full assessment of existing organizational structure and resources in cataloging and metadata services, electronic resources management, serials, special collections, and preservation. He served as a member of transition team for the establishment of the SUNY Library Consortium and the Long Island Library Resources Council (LILRC). We wish him well as he relocates to the midwest!

The Music Library’s YouTube series released another video - this one on the story of the Louisville Orchestra. https://library.stonybrook.edu/2022/02/18/vinyl-notes-the-st-louis-orchestra/

A search has commenced for the Dean of Libraries - Stony Brook University. https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/lib-dean/

GCC library update
« Reply #2 on: March 24, 2022, 10:46:45 AM »
The library unveiled a promo video that was in the works for possibly two years  ???, with the talents of our MarCom department and student narrator Francesca. You can view it here: https://youtu.be/agfHNwawSsQ

We are currently accepting submissions for our 21st Annual Student Poetry Contest.

We are implementing a student worker program in the library for the first time in more than six years. Two student workers are starting this week and working with our senior circulation clerk and the systems and electronic services librarian.

Work has begun on a new GCC website, and the systems librarian is working closely with other departments on this.

We are partnering with our campus EOP Program to help manage their laptop and textbook loaning services for EOP students.

Venerable Tenzin Yignyen, ordained Tibetan Buddhist Monk and Professor of Tibetan Buddhist Studies, created a sand mandala and lectured on Buddhist teachings in the Utica campus library March 21-24. A mandala is a cosmic diagram that represents the dwelling place of a deity, a Tibetan Buddhist tradition involving the creation and destruction of the mandala made from colored sand.

Lily Wadsworth left her position as Technology and Access Services Librarian. We are currently in the final stages of hiring a User Experience Librarian.

We gained two part-time reference librarians: Imani Odom and Kirsten Campbell.

SUNY Morrisville library has been doing a great deal of work with OER and affordable learning materials. Librarian Adam Saunders and Director Chris Rudecoff have finished their work on the second SUNY OER Sustainability Cohort and presented at the campus professional development conference. This presentation titled OER, ALM & Inclusive Access: Navigating the course learning materials quagmire Was aimed at faculty and how they may find solid ground in making sense of all these various course learning materials. Learning the differences, similarities, and misconceptions behind three of the most common types of course learning materials: Open Education Resources (OER), Affordable Learning Materials (ALM), and inclusive access. The librarian also launched a new Affordable Learning Material Task Force under the purview of the campus Provost.

The library gallery is fortunate to be hosting Living in Limbo: Portraits from the border, featuring the works of artist Bill McLaughlin.

The library has been hosting a number of displays which include: Blind Date with a Book, Black History Month, Freedom to Read, Women's History Month, and a special display on immigration to coincide with the art gallery.

Re: Campus Updates - Erie CC
« Reply #7 on: March 24, 2022, 04:40:22 PM »
Erie Community College appointed Dr. David Balkin as its 12th President on February 1, 2022. Dr. Balkin was previously the Chancellor of the South Bend-Elkhart campus of Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana.

Taken from 3/22/22 press release:

Erie CC is undergoing a reorganization of operations. Six programs at South Campus are being deactivated due to low enrollment. Additionally, 16 common programs taught at South and North Campus will now be hubbed at North with possible virtual and live-stream options made available in addition to face-to-face instruction at North beginning in Fall 2022. Unique programs will remain at South Campus exclusively. "The Southtowns location of those programs may change over time within the region just as some programs at the other SUNY Erie locations may change over time depending on industry demand."

In local news interviews, the college has reported a $9 million deficit next year to be eased by a retirement incentive for faculty, staff and lower level administration along with layoffs across the college. Faculty has been most cited as the group to be targeted for layoffs. The future of South Campus is uncertain given that it is also located next to the site of the proposed new stadium for the Buffalo Bills.

The library has not had talks with administration as of yet to the future of the South Campus Library or the impact on operations at North and City libraries that a closure would entail. Those talks are schedule to begin in the next two weeks.

 :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Re: Delhi Update

Delhi's Resnick Library is preparing for our 3rd annual Library Con: "One Library Con to rule them all" to be held on April 24th beginning at 4pm. We had a 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic and are very excited to bring back this event for our students.

A new applied learning partnership with one of our faculty and their New York History course has just begun, to culminate in an interactive library display the week of April 18th. This was conceived after the Resnick Library hosted the SCRLC traveling exhibit, "Immigration in New York State, 1650-1950" which the class came over for with a librarian discussion.

A search is underway to welcome a new Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian to the team at the Resnick Library. We hope to have someone onboard to start over the summer.

Respectfully,
Carrie Fishner, Delegate
