GCC Library Update

Staff updates:
Senior library clerk Matt Grimes left in November and Laurie Oltramari is now in that position, which is responsible for operations of interlibrary loan, and periodicals.
We are pleased to be welcoming back more part-time staff. Part-time reference librarian Rich Bartl and part-time clerk Margaret Serafine returned in the Fall, and this month, we will welcome back part-time librarian Jessica Maxfield. We hired a new part-time library clerk in December, Ashley Hankins.
Facility update:
Thanks to a GCC President’s Innovation Award, we recently installed a new book drop, for return of library materials from one’s car.
Hours expanded in the Spring:
Due to expanded staff, we are able to offer evening hours until 7p.m. Mon-Thur as well as Sunday 1-7 in the Spring 2022 semester.

Stony Brook University Campus Updates

The University Libraries welcomed Deborah Tomengo in January. Deborah will be working in Access & User Services. Deborah holds an Associate degree in Graphic Communications Management from SUNY Farmingdale and a Licensed Practical Nursing certificate from Eastern Suffolk BOCES. Deborah is a long-time employee at Stony Brook University, having worked in various roles at Stony Brook University Hospital, most recently as an assistant in the Department of Pathology.

Mohawk Valley Community College lost two employees pursuing other career interests. We have three openings: two part-time reference positions and one full-time User Experience Librarian. Our college transitioned to double authentication for student account login this semester. Surprisingly there haven't been as many issues as I expected the first week. The IT department set up a Zoom room for the Library to connect students with IT support during the first week of classes so students didn't have to walk to another building for help with their account. This has worked out quite well!

Not much else to report. Eager for more students to be on-campus this semester.

In December, SUNY Polytechnic Instruction Assistant Allison Fiegl completed graduate coursework toward a M.S. in Information & Library Science from the University at Buffalo.  Congratulations Allison!  And, watch out library world!!

Delhi Campus Update

SUNY Delhi will be losing Librarian Amanda Calabrese in February as she pursues new career opportunities. We wish her all the best!

Delhi hopes to be posting for a new E-Resources and Systems Librarian in the near future.

Library staff are anxiously awaiting the arrival of students this semester, and are busy planning programming and instruction to continue engaging with students in a variety of ways.
