A special thanks to April Davies and Bill Jones for working with me on the By-law and Manual changes. These are in the forum and we will discuss them during Old Business.
Last month, I met with Kim Nolan, chair of the Professional Development Committee. We discussed the committee charges and its direction. That conversation generated the idea of separating the committee into professional development and awards/scholarships. As we continue to expand in the latter area, creating a committee that focuses on just awards/scholarships and another addressing professional development and continuing education initiatives might prove more manageable.

The Wind Beneath Our Wings Award (WBOWA)
Mentors are vital for the professional growth of library professionals. This award honors and encourages the efforts and dedication of individuals in the library field who have demonstrated exceptional commitment with mentoring members of SUNYLA. It acknowledges support a SUNYLA member received to expand their knowledge and expertise within the library and information field.
Award criteria
Eligibility for the Award acknowledges mentorship support of one or more SUNYLA members to reach professional goals within a SUNYLA library.
Nominators must be a current SUNYLA member in good standing for at least 2 years.
Award recipients do not need to be SUNYLA members.
A nomination letter highlighting the nominee’s mentoring activities and how they have made and impact for at least one
SUNYLA member's library career.
