The SUNYLA 2021 conference committee has met twice so far to begin the planning for the annual conference. We have around 28 volunteers on the committee this year, thank you all for taking the time to help with this endeavor in what is surely a very busy and different year for everyone. The plan is for a hybrid conference, pivoting to fully virtual if the situation warrants.
There have been many tasks completed so far on the conference to-do list, including:
• Set conference date: June 16-18, 2021
• Setting a conference theme: SUNYLA 2021: From Seeds to Services: Growing the new academic library”
• Reserving rooms and spaces on campus – working on finalizing costs for housing this week
• Keynote TBD, committee had a great discussion about what we would like to see this year, and in general when we see/listen to a keynote.
• Reserving housing on campus (Riverview Townhouses and Catskill Hall – will determine as we get closer to the conference dates if we still need both locations. A note that there is only one motel in Delhi, and the closest hotels are 30 minutes away in Oneonta.)
• The committee has decided to send out a survey after Thanksgiving to gauge the ability of the membership to attend an in-person conference this year and to seek out what barriers/factors might be part of that decision making process. Please watch for this via the list.
• Conference banking account is up and running (yay!)
If anyone with a design background would like to try their hand at designing a conference logo using the above them, please send it to Carrie at fishnecj@delhi.edu and the committee will be happy to consider it!
Next committee meeting will be held beginning of December. Once we have a logo, the conference website will go live soon after.
