The University Libraries announced the formation of the Anti-Racism Task Force, a subgroup of the Libraries’ Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Committee. The Anti-Racism Task Force will work to strengthen the diversity of the Libraries’ collections and provide resources related to oppression and system racism. The Task Force members are: Mona Ramonetti (chair), Chris Filstrup, Victoria Pilato, and Catrina Reed.

Health Sciences librarian Gregg Stevens was accepted as a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP). This recognition requires substantial productivity in the areas of professional development, service to the medical library profession, and scholarship.

On Wednesday, October 28, the University Libraries presented a live-streamed program of dramatic readings of stories from the pulp-fiction magazine, Weird Tales. The program, titled Weird Tales Out of Copyright, was designed to entertain while also teaching attendees about some elements of copyright.

On September 30, the Art in Focus lecture series took place via Zoom. Helen Harrison, the Eugene V. and Clare E. Thaw Director of the Pollock-Krasner House spoke about “Jackson Pollock and Jazz.” Other lectures in the series included artist Christian White speaking on “Reconciling Realism with Modernism” on October 13 and Nancy Moses discussing “Fakes, Forgeries, and Frauds” on October 27.

Not much to report from SUNY Purchase.  The library has been closed for the Fall semester.  We have been offering contactless pick-up on Tuesdays and Thursdays since August to great success.  The majority of our library staff are working remotely and providing all aspects of library research support and instruction via chat, email, and Zoom.  We also received confirmation from our Provost, Barry Pierson, that the library will remain closed for the Spring 2021 semester as well.  Services will continue as  they have in Fall 2020.

Our campus has maintained low density on campus of all students, staff, and faculty.  Most classes have been mostly remote with a little less than one quarter of the student population in residence, if face to face instruction is absolutely needed or if students have a housing need.  Everyone who comes to campus is required to be part of pooled testing for COVID19 every other week and that has been going well.  As a result cases on campus have been approximately 5 in total.  The Thanksgiving break will require students in residence to go home and the remainder of the semester will be fully remote.  The plan for the Spring 2021 semester is to continue in this same manner.

Hope everyone is doing well!
