Things at Delhi have been moving along with the start of the semester. Library staff helped to welcome students over the summer with the EOP and CPASS transition programs, the Reboot transition weekend, and Access & Equity weekend. The library also hosted events for Orientation week.

Librarians Carrie Fishner & Rebecca Snyder are busy with instruction currently, and working on creating Brightspace modules (Thanks SILC!) to help relieve some of the pressure. The library had an Open House event in collaboration with our Achievement Center last week.

Carrie is working Banned Books week programming with some of our LAS faculty.

The library was approved to pilot a reduction of 10 hours for the fall semester due to staffing shortages.

We're excited to announce four new staff members who recently joined the Upstate Health Sciences Library:
-Holly Nodzo, Student Work-Study Supervisor
-Emily Miller, Digital Archivist
-Marcía “Marcie” Tuzzo, Library Administrative Assistant
-Patrick Wolfe, Library Systems Specialist (starting in October)

We're proud to announce that Abigail Smith (Assistant Director for Research & Instruction) recently received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Librarianship. Abby has provided nine years of outstanding service to Upstate. In her current role, she leads research and instruction initiatives, supports evidence-based practice and clinical care, and provides expert literature searching and evidence-synthesis services.

Our Access Services team continues to put out some great programming, starting with a Mario Kart tournament. Some recent and upcoming events include making a felt pennant flag, making a yarn balloon pumpkin, a journaling workshop, and a geode skull craft. They've also set up several always-popular therapy dog visits for the semester.

Planning is underway for the SUNYLA 2027 Annual Conference at UAlbany! Our tentative dates are June 16–18, 2027. A call for conference planning volunteers (https://forms.gle/JsGcoc3DsYjjgpHAA)
went out earlier this week, and I expect we'll have our first planning meeting in early October.

I have a meeting scheduled for September 28 with UAlbany's Residential Life folks to talk about on-campus housing options. Their summer 2027 rates and information haven't been updated yet on their public website, and they mentioned that they typically don't start conversations about summer housing until the spring. That said, they appreciate that we're getting an early start and are happy to meet and get the ball rolling!

We'll also need to request $5,000 in startup funds for the conference, which I'm assuming we can address under New Business at the 9/25 meeting.

Good morning!

A quick committee membership update-

We are very grateful for the work of Rai Yiannakos, one of our longtime members, who has accepted the Acquisitions Lead Librarian position in Bird Library at Syracuse University and had to step down from the committee.

We would love to add a few new members! If you are interested or have any questions, please email Heather.

Our next meeting is Monday October 19th from 10:00-10:30 via Teams. We are currently working to get IRB training and finalizing the Stay Survey.

SUNYLA Excellence in Scholarship Award (Hilary Wong)
In June, Rebecca Hewitt stepped down as the chair of the SUNYLA Excellence in Scholarship Award Committee. We thank her for her work creating and leading this committee. Hilary Wong has taken over as chair of the committee.

TDG is looking for a few more members for the Midwinter Conference committee; with recent volunteers we have 6-ish people, which is not a bad number, but if a few more people want to help out, that's great. Edit: We have plenty of people now, but if you're still interested, please let me know!

Jill Locascio is stepping away from the committee this year - she has done a ton of work on the conference over the years, as well as putting together a whole suite of resources to help those of us following in her footsteps to keep things going. Thanks, Jill!

The current expected timeline for the conference planning:
   • October - select a theme and do prep work
   • November - start soliciting proposals
   • Early December - select proposals & send out confirmation emails to presenters
   • January - do Zoom tests with the presenters (will involve upgrading the Zoom account for a month)
   • February - conference!!
