Alissa Karl is the new Vice President for Academics. I look forward to working with her.

The last round of contractual money to address salary compression is scheduled for December.

2)   Has telecommuting come up in the hiring or retention of employees?

Updates from Mark McBride, Senior Library Strategist, and Carey Hatch, Interim Senior Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, Office of the Provost.

-- Elsevier agreement for Science Direct is set to expire December 2022.
Based on feedback from the SUNY Shared Collections Committee (SSCC), Tim Arnold, chair of SSCC and Director of Libraries at Jamestown Community College, joined with Shannon Pritting, Esta Tovstiada, and Mark McBride, for a conversation with the 4 university centers to get their perspectives on how the current agreement is supporting their needs.

-- The SSCC is considering an offer from Oxford Press for the OED and will present to the entire community for consideration. OLIS intends on offering a subsidy, if campuses agree to participate in the offer.

-- The Provost’s Office has convened a large group to act as the advisory council for the new SUNY Digital Learning Environment (DLE). SUNY Libraries are being represented by Katie Ghidiu from Monroe Community College and Cynthia Tysik from UB.

-- Nearly all campuses have successfully implemented their OA policies. Albany and SUNY Poly are the only holdouts. They should be expecting communication shortly, seeking a status update.

Updates from Shannon Pritting, SUNY Library Services Director

-- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Forces and Initiatives
There are multiple SUNY Library task forces related to DEI:
o   Professional Development
o   Collections
o   Teaching and Outreach/Information Literacy
o   Policies
o   Buildings and Spaces

16 SUNY members are attending the DeEtta Jones Inclusive Managers’ Toolkit as a cohort to provide support for DEI and leadership development: https://www.deettajones.com/inclusive_managers_toolkit

-- SLS is providing onboarding services for new staff at campuses. Thus far, there have been 5 staff who are working directly with SLS staff to get oriented to SUNY Library systems and processes, with coordinated training and support for these new staff.

-- SUNYConnect
A Task Force is preparing for the next SUNYConnect agreement.
Meetings with Sector leadership are happening, led by task force members.

A survey was conducted, with all but a few campuses responding.

-- The SLS continues to review e-resources for accessibility.  If campuses would like a resource reviewed, please let us know (request form and reviews are at: https://slcny.libguides.com/vendor_accessibility

-- Access to Deque University has been restored.  Please contact your EIT officer for access.
SUNY is suggesting courses and training within Deque and mapping them to roles in the library.

-- SUNY is working with ProQuest and ExLibris to begin testing whole ebook ILL lending using Ebook Central, Alma, and Primo in the near future.

Ending a year long dry spell, The Professional Development Grants Committee has awarded 4 professional development grants since May 18th in the total amount of $1925.

We are currently reviewing another application.

We (myself, Jocelyn and Carrie Fishner) have also reignited discussions in regard to getting our mentor program back up and running. The current description of the program is for library professionals. Jocelyn has suggested we open the program up to include library school students. Our next step is to have further discussion at the next council meeting and see if anyone else is interested in being involved.

There is a Call for Proposals out for our annual Open Access Symposium, Towards Equitable Knowledge Gathering and Sharing. The Symposium will be held virtually on October 28 and 29, 2021.

The Stony Brook University Libraries was honored to have been selected as one of a few institutions to host a 9/11 Memorial & Museum 20th Anniversary exhibit. The display, titled September 11, 2001: The Day that Changed the World, includes 14 posters and tells the story of the attacks using photos and first person accounts.

Staffing updates:
Meghan Sprabary, Manger, Music Library, moved back to Texas in July. Christopher Larson, Head of HSL Access Services, accepted a librarian position at a public library in Connecticut in August.

Thank you to Karen Gelles and Farmingdale State College for hosting the 2022 Annual Conference. We are also excited to announce SUNY Maritime has agreed to host the 2023 Annual Conference. Thank you to Renae Rapp and her team for their advanced planning.

I had a meeting in July with Queens College graduate students, Gillian Rothchild and Angelina Anzalone, regarding how SUNYLA can better support library school students. Below are the main points from this meeting.
- Increase mentoring opportunities (further discussed under new business). I drafted a mentoring program outline. Will look for feedback and mentoring volunteers.
- SUNY Library job listing site with internship opportunities - being worked on
- Resume/cover letter writing workshop - tentatively scheduled for Oct. 15th; hosted by LIS sub-committee
- Library school student voice during Council meetings (also under new business).

During the June Council meeting it was recommended to invite Tim Stookesberry from SUNY Press to start a conversation on how SUNYLA and SUNY Press can collaborate. I contacted him and he agreed to attend today. Welcome Tim! He will be speaking under new business.

I attended a meeting discussing a possible SUNYLA DEI committee. We need to explore whether or not we want this as a permanent standing committee and further establish the mission and goals. To be discussed further under old business.

I attended a delegate enhancement sub-committee organized by Carol Anne Germain. We discussed reduced conference fees for delegates and other incentives that will be shared during the Membership report.

The Promotion & Tenure Ad Hoc committee hosted another successful pre-conference session during the Annual Conference in June. We had a great turn-out for a late Friday conference session, so thank you to everyone who attended. There was great conversation and questions, and we seemed to really be able to offer a lot of support to our colleagues through this program.

We are currently looking at the next steps we can take as a committee, beyond offering these programs at annual. We have been in talks with the Professional Development Committee and the LIS Student subcommittee of Membership to look at reviving the SUNYLA Mentorship program.

•   Call for submissions for October newsletter went out on Monday – Deadline=9/28
•   3 Member Spotlights on FB and Twitter so far
     -   the latest one (8/6) was seen by 801 people on Twitter, with 19 engagements; 73 on FB, with 7 engagements
•   Speaking of social media, we currently have 297 followers on FB and 310 on Twitter

We are pleased to be welcoming Freya Gibbon as our new Instruction Librarian & Reference Coordinator starting on Sept. 20

We are currently searching for a Circulation Supervisor (Clerk 2) as Cat Wise has left us for a position at SUNY Oneonta.

The SUNY Adirondack Library has had several staff changes:

Professor of Library Science Teresa Ronning and Distinguished Professor of Library Science Joyce Miller have both retired as of August 31. Terry and Joyce joined the library faculty in 1995. Joyce will continue working two days a week, assisting with research and instruction.

Emily Goodspeed continues as Library Chair and Digital Services Librarian.

Danielle Thomas has been hired as Research Services Librarian. She was a student assistant at the SUNY Adirondack Library starting in 2015, and graduated from SUNY Adirondack in 2017. She was hired as a part-time Library Specialist and also attended SUNY Plattsburgh's Branch Campus at SUNY Adirondack. She received her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2019, and became a full-time Library Services Assistant. While working full-time, she pursued a library degree. She received her Master's in Information and Library Science in August. She will be the Collection Development/Liaison Librarian for English, Social Sciences and Human Services Divisions and the Liaison Librarian for the Plattsburgh Branch Campus.
