I don't really have anything to report.  However, I thought I would share the same information I sent out a few weeks ago concerning the way campus delegate changes should be handled, what needs to be done and who to contact to get it donw, etc.

What to do when a new delegate is elected:

When a new delegate is elected, they need to be added to the SUNYLA council listserve (while the old delegate will be taken off) and listed as delegate in the membership directory. 

Then, they are to be emailed by the current 1st VP who’s role is to welcome them and get them familiar with their duties and point them to the delegate toolkit (http://www.sunyla.org/delegate_toolkit) on the SUNYLA website. 

To make this happen and before officially handing over the responsibility to the new delegate, the past delegate should send out an email cc’ing the following people:

Ken Fujiuchi, fujiuck@buffalostate.edu – Person in charge of the SUNYLA listserve -  he’ll add the new delegate to the listserve and take the past delegate off.

Wendy West wwest@albany.edu – Chair of the membership committee - she’s in charge of the membership directory and will make sure the new delegate is listed accordingly.  She’ll also probably make sure the new delegate is up to date on their dues. ;-)

Alvin Dantes  alvin.dantes@oneonta.edu – 1st VP – official new delegate welcome person

We've hired a part time library clerk, Brooke Hartle.  Brooke began with us as an intern and, over the summer applied and was accepted to Syracuse Universities Masters in LIS program.  At the moment she helps out at the reference desk, covering the hours our librarians are unable to because of other responsibilities (committee meetings, library instruction, etc).  We love having her!

We also have another intern with us for the Fall, Brittani Ellis.  Brittani is currently finishing off her degree at Potsdam in English Literature.

SUNY Old Westbury update (adding this for Antonia Digregorio):

What’s happening at SUNY Old Westbury.
 As most of you know – we are in the process of a renovation. The first half of the construction should be complete for the Spring 2014 semester.   
Librarian Joanne Spadaro created an online embedded course for a Sociology Senior Seminar with Professor Diana Papademas from Sociology department. This course was taught in  Fall 2012 and Spring 2013.  The fall 2013 was a hybrid course that only met once a week, and the spring 2013 was a traditional course.
Business librarian, Curt Friehs has published a book chapter  "Surviving Layoffs" from Managing in the Middle.  It was published by ALA Editions and there is a write-up in American Libraries.  Here are some links:
Curt Friehs (Senior Assistant Librarian) and Margaret King (Outreach & Internship Coordinator, Office of Career Planning and Development) gave a presentation on "Using the Internet & Library for Your Career Planning & Job Search" at Workforce Partnership in Massapequa, NY. The presentation focused on strategies to improve career success for an audience actively seeking employment.

Our latest addition to the Old Westbury College library reference staff is Jason Kaloudis. Jason is Access Services and manages the Circulation department. He earned his MLS from the Palmer School of Library Science at LIU in 2007, and comes to us with a background in both academic and public libraries.

Hello everyone,

Here are the final details for the meeting on Friday.

Meeting in-person:

The address to Buffalo State College is 1300 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, NY.

You can find campus maps and directions here http://www.buffalostate.edu/visit.xml.  

 The meeting will be held in BUTL 314, or E.H. Butler Library room 314.  The library is listed as building 6 on the campus map http://www.buffalostate.edu/pdf/campusmap.pdf ).  From the looks of it, the closest visitor parking lot is Lot C or Lot X.

David Lankes is coming to our campus on Wednesday January 16 to present our Start-up Day keynote address titled Learning Spaces Now and in the Future.  He will also be hosting an afternoon visioning workshop focusing on our future collaborative learning center.

We are also launching our EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) “Search Almost Everything” (find the link on the library homepage http://www.sunyjefferson.edu/academics/library ). We have guest access set up so non-JCC users can try it.

NYS Thruway I-87 Exit 18, after the toll, Left at the light, stay on that road (NY-299W/Main Street) past 2 more lights, at the third light turn Left onto 32 S/S Manheim Blvd. Past the campus East and Main Entrances, take the South Entrance (Southside Loop), at the second Stop sign, turn Right to stay on Southside Loop. Look for Library Parking Lot 3 past the Athletic & Wellness Center.
