UUP Liaison's Report
Dan Harms
SUNYLA Liaison to UUP
(not present)
The UUP A-48 Committee for librarian equity has had two meetings with the state, most recently on met on July 29. Among other items, we are exploring options for joint labor-management education and training programs at the individual and campus levels.
We’ve heard concerns about the amount of information that we’ve been able to give out. Unfortunately, this is the nature of negotiations, as we need keep information under wraps so that we can get more for librarians down the road. We will be delivering more information as soon as we are given permission to do so.
Negotiation can be a lengthy process, but we are optimistic that this is a good way to go about resolving the long-standing issues that have beset librarians over the years. The feeling from the committee and UUP is that the A-48 committee should continue into the new contract period, to continue discussion of the problems we face.
UUP Vice President for Professionals J. Philippe Abraham is the head of our negotiations team. He and other members are visiting campuses to gather information to inform the upcoming negotiations with the State of New York for the new contract. It is vitally important that librarians make their voices heard and be able to detail specific problems and situations that UUP can bring to the table. I strongly encourage you to make your voice known at the campus forums, and/or to fill out and return the following form.
