In addition to the following report, the NYLA ASLS President, Jessica Clemons, would like some feedback on what SUNYLA would like to see from NYLA/ASLS.  If you would like to send your thoughts and comments to me I will compile them to send to Jessica.  Thanks!  Wendy

ASLS report to NYLA Council, January 2018

Communication is being streamlined and updated. New board members are have been added, the website is accurate, and people have been removed from the board listserv as appropriate.

The 2017 NYLA conference was very strong, with excellent evaluations from ASLS sections.
Conference programming for 2018 is off to a strong start.

Legislative Committee rep will be Matthew Kopel. Previous rep could no longer continue in her role.

Academic Library Summit from last fall is being synthesized, shared, and discussed for future actions.

2018 Academic Librarian conference happening in Ithaca in October, Marcy Strong and Laura Osterholt are representing ASLS.

ASLS is on sound financial footing. We will be contributing to Library Advocacy Day.

New projects for the group
Rebranding ASLS to have a more professional image

NYLA news from Michelle Young, ASLS President

We are doing a membership review and encouraging all academics and special libraries and their staffs to join. We are pushing hard to have a significant presence in NYLA.

Our academic summit (previously mentioned) was a success. It was last week. We have several notes and action items to work on - a report and potential white paper is in the works.

Conference planning is done and there are several great programs at the fall conference (in Saratoga Springs).

Please encourage anyone to reach out if they have questions.

I've attached a copy of the NYLA-ASLS President's report.  - Wendy

Update: Here is the info about the white paper.

Summit participants will also work toward the development of a white paper commenting on the status of Academic, Research and Special Libraries in New York State.  This report would provide a snapshot of the community based on collectively agreed upon benchmarks. The intent in creating this paper is to formally document the immense value of our strong and rich mix of academic, research and special libraries in New York State.

From newly elected ASLS President, Michelle Young:

The update for you would be to say that our conference programming and overall NYLA event was a great success. I am gathering the data on ASLS and the new board will start meeting soon. Programming also begins now! If people have requests we want to hear about it. An agenda item we will be working on is expanding membership, both institutional as well as individual for academic and special libraries.
