Membership Statistics & Committee Activities:

As of March 8, 2012, according the membership directory, there are 184 members in SUNYLA.  This numer includes 26 new members.  In SUNYLA  there are 65 delegate positions; delegates have been identified so far and 33 are currently members.

A reminder about paying memberships was sent out out the the general membership on November 29, 2011.
An email was sent to all the members whose membership was currently expired in the database on February 7, 2012

I will be bringing a list of expired memberships, by location to share with the delegates but would be happy to email that information to anyone who cannot attend the council meeting.

The committee is currently working on revising/recreating the SUNYLA brochure and is working with the conference committee on this year's membership social.

Membership Development Committee Report
November 11, 2011

Membership Statistics:

As of November 11, 2011, there are 132 members in SUNYLA with current memberships.  In SUNYLA, there are 65 delegate positions; 38 delegates have been identified and 21 are currently members.


Membership Report:


This year the Membership Development Committee (MDC) is focusing on two main projects:

1)The MDC chair is working with the Conference Committee for this year’s conference.  The committee is specifically focused on planning the membership social. 

2)The committee is working on a SUNYLA brochure that could be used by the delegates to increase membership and to provide new members with basic information about the organization.

3)The committee will be sending out a message this month, on the listserv, reminding SUNLYA members that memberships expired in June and to renew their memberships.

Membership Development Committee Report
September 21, 2011


As of today, the directory shows approximately 120 paid memberships. We have 13 new members this year.  The directory also shows that we have 41 delegates, half with unpaid memberships.  I do not believe that we can depend on these numbers to accurately reflect the SUNYLA membership at this time.  There are some discrepancies between the valid and paid dates in the directory for this year's paid memberships.  I will be working with the treasurer to resolve those issues.  Nor do I think it is a good idea to send out a reminder to members about unpaid memberships until we can accurately confirm membership dates.  I will work on having these problems straightened and hopefully have some more useful numbers before our next council meeting.

This year, the committee will also be working on promotional materials that delegates can use to help encourage colleagues to join SUNYLA.

Membership Statistics:
As of June 14, 2011, there are 274 members in SUNYLA, including 31 new members.  In SUNYLA  there are 65 delegate positions;  41 delegates have been identified so far and 38 are currently members.

Committee Activity:
The membership data going back to 2005 has been entered into the Google membership document.  The historic delegate information is currently being added. Once that data is entered a copy along with all of the other paper files will be sent to Buffalo to archive.

The committee continues to work on ideas for PR concepts and materials focused on encouraging non-members to join (or renew) and existing members to become more actively involved.

March 8, 2011

Membership Statistics:

As of March 8, 2011, there are 234 members in SUNYLA, including 29 new members.  In SUNYLA ,  there are 65 delegate positions; 36 delegates have been identified so far and all but 3 are currently members.


Membership activities:

1)   The Chair continues work on updating the Google document with the membership data for the paper iles back to 2005
2)   The Membership Development Committee has created a Google document to develop ideas for the committee’s activities that were brought up in the June meeting.  This is not proving to be a good format for the committee and will be consider other ways to collaborate on a regular basis.
3)  The Committee has a member working on developing ideas for marketing and promoting SUNYLA to potential new members.

November 16, 2010

Membership Statistics:

As of November 16, 2010, there are 203 members in SUNYLA, including 18 new members.  In SUNYLA ,  there are 65 delegate positions; 45 delegates have been identified so far and all but 9 are currently members.


Membership Proceedings:

1)   The Chair continues to work closely with the treasurer, G. Bobish, to verify and update the membership directory data. 
2)   Answered inquiries about membership status and the membership year throughout the year.  There appears to be some confusion among the membership, still, about when the membership year begins and ends.
3)   The Membership Development Committee has created a Google document to develop ideas for the committee’s activities that were brought up in the June meeting.  We are still trying to get this off the ground, working remotely is proving to be somewhat challenging.   May switch to another format, such as Skype, if there is not significant progress this semester.

As of Sept 3, 2010, there are 159 members in SUNYLA membership directory, including 10 new members.  In SUNYLA  there are 65 delegate positions; 21 delegates have been identified so far and 13 are currently members.

June 17, 2010

The committee met at the SUNYLA annual conference at Brockport to discuss the progress on the delegate toolbox and to decide what we would like to focus/work on this year.

At the SUNYLA Council meeting in March (Albany), Carleen was charged by the President (Rath) to take on the completion of the toolbox.  The MDC will support Carleen and the other delegates working on the toolbox as requested (by them).  Once the delegates are ready to have it placed on the SUNYLA web page a request will be sent to Logan Rath & Katherine Brendt.  [Wendy talked with April after the MDC meeting & since the toolbox was already approved by the council the project can move forward when ready).

This year the MDC would like to work on the following projects:

Creating a proposal to build a member profile (opt-in choice) into the membership database.  The database could include a photo, job title & description, interests, research activities, & links to facebook, twitter, etc.

Proposal to create a SUNYLA mentoring plan

Proposal to have regional meetings so that delegates (only delegates??) could get together at times other than the council meetings and the annual conference.

Create a new member kit to be given to new members along with some kind of gift.  Packet should include:  welcome letter from the president, information about programs, grants, etc.

Create some kind of promotional material to give out to possible new members (possibly a pdf or document that can be emailed).

The committee agreed to work on these items by using a shared Google document.

Membership Development Committee Report

Highlights from this past year:

SUNYLA currently has 298 members including 45 new members and 29 delegates.

The MDC came up with the idea of creating a "toolbox" for the delegates.  Surveyed the delegates in the Fall of 2009 and reported the results.  At the council meeting in Albany, time was set aside for the Council members, delegates and MDC members to brainstorm about what the "toolbox" be be, where it should be located and what information it should contain.

MDC chair worked with the Treasurer to streamline the membership/payment processing and updated the Google document to reflect changes as soon as possible.   The chair also meet with the Treasurer and the President to discuss the implementation and the date for making the new more dynamic membership database available to the membership.  The database came into use this Spring and allows the members and delegates easier access to membership information.

The MDC received and answered requests for membership information and letters confirming membership for promotional/tenure purposes.  There was some confusion about the renewal date for memberships last year.  Since membership renewal was tied to the conference registration starting last year, some members forgot to renew their membership.  To avoid confusion this year, there will be a message going out on the listserv reminding folks to renew their memberships if they did not do so at the conference this year.

The MDC will be having a meeting on Thursday, June 17th, from 4:15 - 5pm in Edwards Hall in room 102.  The primary topic will be the committee's focus and projects for the upcoming year.  The meeting is open to all.
