Activities:
•   February newsletter issue went out on time and was well received
•   Amanda is doing a good job with our social media presence

Upcoming:
•   Normally, the Call for Submissions for the May newsletter would go out in a couple of weeks. With our current situation I wonder if we should skip it, OR, if it’s more important than ever that we go forward. I welcome input from anyone who cares to weigh in.

•   The idea for a special issue of the newsletter was a good one but the execution needs work. I am open to suggestions if anyone has anything to share.
•   Next newsletter is scheduled for October, with the submission deadline in early-mid September.

Activities:
•   As of Tuesday morning (when I wrote this), the ‘February’ newsletter is in it’s final stages.
•   Reviewed the submissions for the student engagement special issue. All were very good with only a few tweaks needed here and there.
•   Sent out the call for people’s SUNYLA Stories (testimonial blurbs and such for use in recruitment, marketing, etc.). Have one response so far.

Upcoming:
•   Deadline for the May newsletter will be mid-to-early April.

•   Discussing how to proceed with topic-focused (Student Engagement) issue for February.

•   That February newsletter might be the first of our topical issues if we can pull it off.

•   The May newsletter went out in the nick of time.
•   The committee got 2 new members! Justin Cronise from Erie and Aleshia Huber from Binghamton.

Upcoming:
•   We’ll put out a special post-conference issue if we have enough content.
•   The next regular issue is October. Call for submissions will go out in September.
•   I’m thinking about starting special issues of the newsletter devoted to single topics (OER, privacy, etc.), probably only once or twice a year. The idea still needs work so feel free to send me any ideas you may have.

•   The October newsletter went out on Halloween. The next issue is February. I urge chairs and officers to consider submitting—a plug for the grants program, publicity for the annual conference, etc.
•   Social media update: up to 222 FB followers; holding at 249 on Twitter. Engagement on FB posts has been good of late. The one for the October newsletter reached 789 people!

June 9, 2017


Activities:
•   The May newsletter was posted with time to spare. This was the first issue done with InDesign so there were some quirks to iron out but otherwise the change has worked out fine.
•   Newsletter editor Sherry Larson-Rhodes is working on a style guide.
•   Jim Coan and Nancy Abashian have left the committee. Jim retired and Nancy has other commitments.

Upcoming:
•   We’re planning to do the special ‘post-conference’ edition again since it was such a hit last year (http://www.sunyla.org/sunyla_docs/newsletters/2016june-se.pdf)
•   I might recruit a couple of new members, or not. I haven’t decided yet.
