New Paltz has a new delegate to SUNYLA starting September 2014. Her name is Anne Deutsch.

Anne will be joining the conference call tomorrow, and she will introduce herself to the group.

We are about finishing up our new library website redesign pages, and incorporating EDS discovery search single-search box with the new library home page. The new web is tentatively scheduled to be launched in January.

New Paltz hosted the first 'Single-Bib' kickoff meeting on October 30th, 2013. Most mid-Hudson SUNY libraries' reps and librarians attended and participated in the discussion. All participants were excited and very enthusiastic about the project. The presentation and information were timely and well received.

New Paltz campus update

Sojourner Truth Library’s Cataloging, Interlibrary Loan, Acquisitions and Book Repair departments moved into newly renovated spaces over the summer. The new library office is located on the Concourse entrance level, opposite to the library entrance. The new space has all new furniture, carpeting, windows and network infrastructure.
STL is conducting a librarian search to fill the position of collection development/acquisition. Web link to the posting:

Medaline Veitch joined New Paltz March 11, as our new metadata/cataloging librarian.

The New Paltz Library's renovation project is held up by the SUNY Construction Fund budgetary constraints. We will probably get an update from the campus President and SUNY CF soon.

The Sojourner Truth Library welcomes Anne Deutsch as the new Reference and Instruction Librarian. After earning her MLS from CUNY Queens College, Anne moved to Minnesota where she worked as a Librarian at the Brooklyn Park Campus of Rasmussen College. She designed and taught Information Literacy and Research Skills courses at both Minneapolis Community & Technical College and Rasmussen College.  Anne is excited to be back in New York and to join the SUNY New Paltz team.

STL librarians Colleen Lougen and Valerie Mittenberg are to present ‘Where to Publish: Tips and Strategies for Untenured Faculty’ with Art History Professor Reva Wolf at the Faculty Winter Forum – a roundtable discussion forum with teaching faculty in the Honors Center and the Teaching and Learning Center of New Paltz.

Since the launch of LibAnswers, Reference Librarian Matthew Laudicina has provided training to all librarians and student assistants on LibAnswers. Matt also created a searchable database of FAQs from the campus community.

Stephan J. Macaluso has been serving as the president of the Board of Trustees of the Southeastern New York Library Resource Council since June 2012.  SENYLRC's board is currently implementing a strategic plan, and developing assessment initiatives designed to enhance services to over 100 libraries and systems in the Mid-Hudson region.  SUNY library directors Kari Mack (Ulster) and Jon Grennan (Sullivan) also serve on the board.

The Lending iPads have been very popular since the loan period changed to 7 days. Students use the iPads for many different purposes and projects. To fill some of the heavy demands, we are expanding the iPad lending program to add an extra bundle of 10 iPads in the Spring Semester.

A Blackboard Collaborate ‘virtual’ library field trip was organized for Mrs Susan Guerrette’s 7th Grade Computer Applications class of Van Wyck Junior High School (Wappingers Central School District) on November 5th. The 7th graders and STL librarians were thrilled and fully enjoyed this joint venture. The young students were able to experience the Blackboard web conferencing application in action. The day-long ‘field trip' allowed five classes to participate. Several of the students were able to interview SUNY New Paltz’s host librarians about their career choices.

New Dean of Sojourner Truth Library
The Sojourner Truth Library welcomes W. Mark Colvson as the new Dean of the Library. Mark comes to the State University at New Paltz from Marist College where he served as Associate Director of the Cannavino Library.
Satellite Reference Service
Sojourner Truth Library (STL) now provides reference assistance to the campus at an additional location outside of the library reference desk. This satellite service, branded as Library Help @ the Career Resources Center, is staffed two hours, three days a week.
LibAnswers
STL officially launched LibAnswers, our new virtual reference tool. Patrons can text us their questions, and we have the ability with LibAnswers to send the answer directly and instantaneously to their cell phones.
iPads Lending
STL now has iPads available for checkout with a valid NP ID at the Checkout Desk. The loan period is 3 hours.  Each iPad comes with the native iOS apps and word processing apps such as Apple Pages, but users can add their own as well. All personal data will be completely erased from every iPad once returned.
