Resource Sharing Update--

Empire Library Delivery (ELD) Q&A Sessions:
Hello, everybody. The Empire state Library Network (ESLN) has completed the RFP process for a new Empire Library Delivery (ELD) contract. The new contract will go into effect on July 1, 2023. Pricing information for ELD under this new contract was sent to library directors on March 10, and libraries need to notify ESLN of their desired level of ELD service under the new contract by March 31. In order to help libraries make decisions about ELD, SLS will be holding two open Q&A sessions on Thursday, March 23 at 1:00pm and Tuesday, March 28 at 1:00pm. Registration links are below.

[Thursday, March 23: https://slcny.libcal.com/event/10522507]

Tuesday, March 28: https://slcny.libcal.com/event/10522511

These sessions will not be recorded. If you are unable to attend either session and you have questions about ELD, please submit a ticket to info@slcny.libanswers.com.

Thanks,
Tim Jackson

Report from scholarly communication meeting on 11/2:

This past summer the OLIS sent out a survey to the library community and hosted a feedback session to gauge interest in how OLIS could support community-building related to scholarly communications within the SUNY libraries. One of the ideas for building community was to host monthly Zoom meetup for interested people. The first meetup was held on 11/2. Participants split into four breakout rooms to discuss topics of interest to the groups. The next meeting is scheduled for 12/7 at 10 am. This meeting will focus on digital scholarship/pedagogy/humanities. Mark McBride and Tony DeFranco (OLIS) will share a brief presentation and lead a discussion. If your campus is doing work in this area, please feel free to contribute by sharing your experiences, ideas, challenges and solutions. To register: https://slcny.libcal.com/event/8518550

== OLIS System Provost Update ==

SUNY BoT has passed the new General Education Standards. Of particular interest to libraries, there are new competencies for information literacy (replacing the old information management framework). These are applicable to all students pursuing a SUNY undergraduate degree. The resolution directs the Chancellor or designee to work with campus leadership and faculty to implement local general education and undergraduate degree program requirements that are consistent with the SUNY General Education Framework, effective fall 2023 for A.A., A.S., and all baccalaureate degree programs and no later than fall 2024 for A.A.S. and A.O.S. degree programs.

Digital Learning Environment (DLE) implementation-- SUNY awarded the contract to Brightspace; all SUNY campuses going live on D2L. OLIS is regularly consulted as we were the first organization to migrate campuses to a single instance, multi tenant digital technology solution (ALMA/Primo). Katie Ghidiu from MCC and Cindi Tysik from UB represent SUNY Libraries on the DLE advisory council.

SUNY will soon begin negotiations with Lumen Learning on a new contract to continue efforts with the OER Services. Of note, the OER availabile through OER Services is directly aligned with the General Education Standards. There will be future communications coming out on that shortly.

At the Fall SLC meeting there will be conversations about renewing the existing Elsevier contract. Stay tuned for information on that.

Also, in bittersweet news, Maureen Zajkowski will be retiring from SUNY on December 22. Maureen has provided a steady hand for a number of years in OLIS and she will be missed.

« on: September 16, 2021, 03:52:10 PM »
Updates from Mark McBride, Senior Library Strategist, and Carey Hatch, Interim Senior Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, Office of the Provost.

-- Elsevier agreement for Science Direct is set to expire December 2022.
Based on feedback from the SUNY Shared Collections Committee (SSCC), Tim Arnold, chair of SSCC and Director of Libraries at Jamestown Community College, joined with Shannon Pritting, Esta Tovstiada, and Mark McBride, for a conversation with the 4 university centers to get their perspectives on how the current agreement is supporting their needs.

-- The SSCC is considering an offer from Oxford Press for the OED and will present to the entire community for consideration. OLIS intends on offering a subsidy, if campuses agree to participate in the offer.

-- The Provost’s Office has convened a large group to act as the advisory council for the new SUNY Digital Learning Environment (DLE). SUNY Libraries are being represented by Katie Ghidiu from Monroe Community College and Cynthia Tysik from UB.

-- Nearly all campuses have successfully implemented their OA policies. Albany and SUNY Poly are the only holdouts. They should be expecting communication shortly, seeking a status update.

Updates from Shannon Pritting, SUNY Library Services Director

-- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Forces and Initiatives
There are multiple SUNY Library task forces related to DEI:
o   Professional Development
o   Collections
o   Teaching and Outreach/Information Literacy
o   Policies
o   Buildings and Spaces

16 SUNY members are attending the DeEtta Jones Inclusive Managers’ Toolkit as a cohort to provide support for DEI and leadership development: https://www.deettajones.com/inclusive_managers_toolkit

-- SLS is providing onboarding services for new staff at campuses. Thus far, there have been 5 staff who are working directly with SLS staff to get oriented to SUNY Library systems and processes, with coordinated training and support for these new staff.

-- SUNYConnect
A Task Force is preparing for the next SUNYConnect agreement.
Meetings with Sector leadership are happening, led by task force members.
An open Community update is happening on 9/22 - https://slcny.libcal.com/event/8234316
A survey was conducted, with all but a few campuses responding.

-- The SLS continues to review e-resources for accessibility.  If campuses would like a resource reviewed, please let us know (request form and reviews are at: https://slcny.libguides.com/vendor_accessibility

-- Access to Deque University has been restored.  Please contact your EIT officer for access.
SUNY is suggesting courses and training within Deque and mapping them to roles in the library.

-- SUNY is working with ProQuest and ExLibris to begin testing whole ebook ILL lending using Ebook Central, Alma, and Primo in the near future.

INTERESTED IN SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATIONS?

The OLIS is interested in how we can support community-building related to scholarly communications within SUNY libraries.
One solution we are exploring is offering services to help bring interested people together, by providing tools for communication channels, sharing content, and conducting (virtual) meet-ups.
We developed a brief survey to gauge interest in this type of initiative. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete.
If interested in this initiative, please complete the survey by July 1, 2021: https://slcny.libwizard.com/f/scholcomm

Feel free to answer anonymously. Thanks in advance for your time and input!

Fulfillment Network: We are investigating/implementing a fulfillment network in Alma/Primo. This would allow SUNY users to request materials from any SUNY to be picked up at any participating SUNY library. Additionally, the system handles drop off anywhere services. The project kicks off in January, and is expected to end in a go-live date of Fall 2021.
FAQ - https://slcny.libanswers.com/faq/335353

Shared Ebook DDA: Many campuses are participating in a shared program that is being managed at a group level, and will result in ebook purchases that provide access to all in the group, but using a “multiplier,” reducing overall costs for the group.  Initial groups are focusing on Nursing titles, and then targeted high-quality publishers who cover a variety of subject areas.

The SLS released an invitation for bids for over 800 products commonly subscribed to by SUNY libraries. Bids are due on 2/1/21, with SUNY working from February to May to develop agreements for content. This project will greatly increase the amount of system-wide library content agreements, and reduce duplicate procurement work across the system.

The SLS has been working with a group of library staff over the past six months on the SUNY Library Accessibility Cohort. This cohort has included professional development and collaborative efforts, one of which is the creation of an Accessibility Repository (https://slcny.libguides.com/vendor_accessibility) with reviews of VPATs and top-level testing of resources.  Currently, the cohort is focusing on reviewing widely subscribed content, and has completed 21 out of an anticipated 80 products. Keep an eye out for presentations coming up to provide an update on the cohort’s activities.

16 libraries are now borrowing articles via Alma. The SLS has been working with low-volume campuses to migrate from ILLiad to using Alma for their primary resource sharing system.

Next monthly update is Friday, January 15, 2021, at 11 AM. Recording will be posted.

November/December training sessions focused on usage statistics, the new Metadata Editor, eresources troubleshooting and submitting good support tickets.

SLS staff are working on a project to reduce duplication of efforts across our 60 campuses, related to procurement and contract management for library subscriptions. We’re working collaboratively with SUNY campuses, the SUNY Shared Collections Committee (formerly CPC), SUNY System-Wide procurement, the NYS Office of General Services and Office of the NY State Comptroller, and vendor and publisher partners. The SLS intends to release an invitation for bids soon, and has submitted single-source exemption requests to encourage and facilitate more efficient procurement going forward. We hosted a kick-off meeting in early November, and have created a Basecamp for discussions related to this project. There will be further webinars and updates as the project continues.

Alma analytics was upgraded on 11/8/20. Primo analytics is scheduled for 11/22/20. They will now run on OAS (Oracle Analytics Server).
