June 12, 2013 Council Meeting @SUNY Buffalo State / WGIL report
« on: June 11, 2013, 09:22:53 AM »
New WGIL co-chairs Michelle Costello (Geneseo) and Mike Daly (FMCCC) have been voted in by the WGIL membership (unananomously) and appointed officially by the SUNYLA President. They will now officially take over my duties and hopefully one or both of them will be able to attend this council meeting (I am unable to attend virtually).

I look forward to working with both of them as a regular contributing WGIL member, as I'm confident both of them will take us far past the basic org. structures we've put in place over the last couple years.

Thanks,
Dana Longley

Not much new to report.

Work continues on the 3Ts conference and the schedule and abstracts have just been posted to the site (http://threetees.weebly.com). Seats are limited, so register now!

We are also in the initial stages of putting together a team to out and out steal Ken's idea for a virtual mini-conference (his on Discovery systems, our on instruction, obviously)! We are aiming to put together a couple of experienced presenters to use the Blackboard Collaborate tool for this in late Spring. More details as we work on them.

Nov. 16, 2012 Council Meeting @SUNY IT, Utica / WGIL report
« on: November 13, 2012, 09:31:08 AM »
WGIL's online presence has been updated/overhauled:
1. A new web site/blog (http://sunylawgil.wordpress.com/) has replaced the outdated Wiki site (and links to it have been updated on the SUNYLA site).

2. Also, we are in the process of moving our WGIL listserv over to a Google Group (https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/sunyla-wgil) so that archives are more accessible and maintenance of the discussion forum is easier.

Planning (the planning group includes a couple members of WGIL) for the 3Ts 2013 conference to be held in March 2013 at Empire State College continues, with one of it's focuses being bringing in more collaboration with K-12 librarians and teachers.

Thanks,
Dana Longley

March 15, 2012 @Empire, Saratoga Springs / WGIL update
« on: March 09, 2012, 03:27:13 PM »
1. The 3 Ts conference takes place at SUNY Albany in a week and registration is full (at 165) and now closed. Mark McBride and others in WGIL and SUNY have put in a ton of work to make this a success and hopefully also an annual event.

2. The WGIL home page (http://suny-lic.pbworks.com/) has been updated to incorporate RSS feeds from the WGIL Diigo group of shared resources, and for the WGIL Room monthly podcast. A more thorough revision is planned for March-April.

3. The WGIL Room podcast (http://wgilroom.blogspot.com) has passed it's 1st year anniversary, recently posting it's 13th episode of discussions surrounding information literacy, library instruction and emerging technologies.

Nov. 16, 2011 @ FIT / WGIL Report
« on: November 15, 2011, 02:27:04 PM »
Not a lot new to report since the last meeting. Various WGIL members are hard at work on 2 main projects:
1. Mark McBride's Information Literacy Assessment project (he is reporting on this separately)
2. 3Ts 2012: Engaging Students with Transliteracy, Technology and Teaching Conference, to be held at the University of Albany on March 16th, 2012 and keynoted by Trudi Jacobson. The CFP was distributed to various listservs and websites a couple weeks ago.

Thanks,

Dana Longley

Sept. 23, 2011 @ Cortland / WGIL Report
« on: September 23, 2011, 09:07:06 AM »
The tentative date for the next 3 T's Conference: Exploring New Frontiers in Teaching, Technology and Transliteracy, pending COCID and or other funding support, is set for March 16, 2012 at the University of Albany. Planning is still in the early stages, but once funding options have been ironed out, we will be making a call for more volunteers to help make this conference an even bigger success that last year.

Mark McBride, Dunstan McNutt and many others continue to drive the Information Literacy Task Force forward in their quest to gather and share IL assessment practices from around SUNY. Calls will soon be going out to query each SUNY library about their assessment practices and instruments. One eventual goal of this project is to build a shared repository of this data so that all SUNY schools can benefit from it.

Myself and Stephen Macaluso will be putting together a survey to assess the professional development needs and general makeup of WGIL members.

Thanks,

Dana Longley
