2016 Ex Libris Northeast User Group Conference/Meeting on October 27-28, 2016:
New Paltz will host the 2016 Ex Libris Northeast User Group Conference/Meeting on October 27-28, 2016. This is a great opportunity to meet/network/learn with colleagues and Aleph ILS users from the region, such as CUNYs, NYU, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, UMass and other academic consortia. There are varieties of interesting topics (e.g., Tableau visualization and hands-on sessions). Hope you can join us and enjoy the scenic Hudson Valley autumn. Follow the link for more information:

Other New Paltz updates:
Madeline Veitch, Lydia Willoughby, and intern, Jasper Campos have created a new zine website at that details all the updates to our zine library and zine-making materials for checkout. Watch for their zine workshop at SENYLRC coming in December.

Faculty-Staff Quiet Study Room: a new space that is reserved for faculty, staff, emeriti, adjunct faculty, and visiting faculty who wish to conduct quiet, individual work. The room provides a serene environment with comfy chairs, work tables, study carrels, and cubbies for temporary storage of personal materials. The perfect place to get some work done! Access to the room is controlled by a campus ID key-card system.

Personnel News:
Cheryl Morse has accepted the position of Dean's Office secretary. She comes to us from Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services Office and has a background in Landscape Design, Horticulture, Environmental Education and Plant Science. Cheryl loves to read, so what better place to work than a Library?

Amber Melvin joined the library in August as our new Technology Assistant. Amber comes from SUNY Sullivan (which is SUNY New Paltz’s little SUNY sister). She has her degree in Computer Information Systems and is continuing her education in Information Security. She enjoys introducing new technologies to anyone who will sit still long enough! She’s happy to be a part of the New Paltz campus and looks forward to working with faculty and students in the coming years.

Alexa Murphy is starting this fall as a visiting reference and instruction librarian at the Sojourner Truth Library. Alexa received her M.S. in Library and Information Science from Simmons College and also has an M.A. in Professional Writing from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. She is a Hudson Valley native, and comes to us from Tivoli Free Library, where she served as interim director. Before entering the LIS field, Alexa was a writer and editor in educational publishing for fifteen years.

Kim Alessi has rejoined the staff after a brief stint across campus in Accounts Payable. She has taken on a six-month Temporary Assistant to the Dean role. She will take over responsibility for building issues, and will assist with other projects. We are very happy to have her back!
