Just a few bits of news from LACUNY:

We had a temporary change in Executive Council board: The current secretary Elizabeth Arestyl (LaGuardia CC) is currently on leave, Wanett Clyde (City Tech) agreed to serve as interim Sec.; another election will be held in May if necessary.

NEWS FROM LACUNY

Leadership changes for Executive Council:

In November 2017, VP Kimberley Bugg (CityTech) resigned from LACUNY EC, as she was leaving CUNY to go to the Library of Congress as Chief of Humanities and Social Sciences Division. Nora Almeida (City Tech) was elected VP in a special election.

Programming:

LACUNY Institute 2018: Librarianship in Challenging Times: Advocating for Intellectual Freedom, Democracy, and Equity
Friday May 11, 2018 | John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York (CUNY)

Types of proposals:
•   Panel discussion (15 minutes/presenter): Moderated panel presentations with time for questions and discussion.
•   Interactive presentation (45 minutes): Teams of two lead a discussion on topic of their choice related to the theme, with one person presenting context and the other facilitating conversation.
•   Alt-sessions (15-30 minutes): An opportunity for exploring topics through multiple ways of knowing (e.g., short documentary, spoken word, performance art).
•   Poster sessions

Pending SUNYLA Council approval, Lee Ann Fullington (Brooklyn College) will be assuming LACUNY liaison responsibilities, as Kimmy Szeto (Baruch) is stepping down.

The LACUNY Institute for 2016, Race Matters: Race, Racism, and Anti-racism in Librarianship, was held at Brooklyn College on May 20, 2016.  Mitchell S. Jackson, author of The Residue Years, gave the keynote address. The conference was sold out and the Storify of tweets is linked here:  https://storify.com/tinamarievella/lacuny16

The annual LACUNY business meeting on June 7, 2016 at the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute Archives and Library (City College) and will be followed by a presentation by Sarah Aponte, Associate Professor/Chief Librarian of the Dominican Library, Idilio Gracia Peña, CUNY DSI Chief Archivist, and Jhensen Ortiz, Assistant to the Library and MLS/MA Candidate at Queens College.

The LACUNY Accessibility Services Roundtable will host an Unconference on Education and Accessibility. It will be held June 17, 2016 from 10-5 in City College (CCNY) Archives Reading Room.
