The H.G. Library at Niagara County Community College will have two searches in progress this summer. We are looking for a Circulation Librarian and an Emerging Technology Librarian. Hopefully both positions will be filled by September 1st.  The Circulation position is a replacement for our Library Director who was previously the Circulation Librarian. The Emerging Technology position is a new position which is very much needed to keep us up-to-date with systems and new technologies in our library. The closing date for applications for the Circulation position has passed and interviews are scheduled to be held very soon. The Emerging Technology position has not yet been posted as of 6/10/10 but will hopefully be posted very soon. We are planning ahead and looking for exciting changes in the 2010-2011 academic year at NCCC.

Cobleskill Highlights

Construction continues. The next phase is due to begin mid-August.

Katherine Brent will be presenting a poster session on reusable book bands for ILL at the conference. Stop by and give her a hard time.

The campus is in the midst of an organizational shake-up. It's not yet clear what impact this will have on the Library but initial indications are somewhat positive.

We'll see the departure of two employees - Linda Davenport and Jennifer Taft in Public Services - shortly.

The library is bringing together the Help Center and Circulation to create the Information Resources Support Center, based in the library.  A new manager will be hired for this position, reporting to the Directors of the Library and Academic Computing.

Congratulations to Anita Kuiken, who is expecting twins!

SUNYIT now has a new Associate Provost of Information and Learning Resources, Kyle Johnson.  Kyle's background is in ITS.  He will oversee the library as well as ITS, Learning Center, Online Learning, CETL, Online Instructional Design and Voice Communication.  Our Interlibrary Loan clerk, Lillian Soja, will retire after 20+ years at SUNYIT.

We will house the ITS Help Desk and the Reference Desk in the same physical space beginning this summer.  Offices as being shifted but our phone numbers will remain the same.  By next summer, it is hoped that we will be a Learning Commons.

The new FLCC student union project is progressing and is expected to be completed by June 2011. The Library will see its share of renovations as new areas/services are moved in to the library and existing library staff offices are moved around. Developmental studies, tutoring services, the Write Place and the Math Center will be among the new services located in the library.

Milne's major physical transformation of the Circulation, Tech Help, and Reference desks into a consolidated service point is progressing. We are currently constructing a research area adjacent to the main service desk which will have all of the appropriate technology and other materials conducive to a complete reference interview.  Staff offices have been reconfigured.

With plans for tearing down the Holcomb building set in motion, our weeding & transfer project is full speed ahead. Earlier weeding has cleared space to shift some materials into Frasier and the remainder of materials not sent to Better World Books will come back to Milne.
