IDS Project Liaison Report
« on: June 03, 2015, 08:48:34 AM »
The IDS Project's 11th Annual Summer Conference is Thursday, July 30th, and Friday, July 31st at the Hilton Garden Inn in Watertown, NY. This year's conference theme is “Navigating the Rivers of Data Driven Productivity.” Approximately 250 attendees are expected.

On Wednesday, July 29th, we will be hosting two Pre-Conference Sessions concurrently with the All-Region User Group Meeting. The first session on ILLiad Webpages will include modifying and enhancing your ILLiad webpages to work best for your library. Having IT experience will help though it isn't required. The second session on ILLiad Addons will be a programming session that will go over the basics of the programming language Lua, the ILLiad Client, and how to create your own Client Addons. If you have some programming knowledge, then the session will be easier to understand, but it is not a requirement. Attendees are expected to bring their own laptop with a connection to a live instance of ILLiad.

This year's conference is packed with information and training regarding exciting new technologies and strategies for access, resource sharing and acquisitions/collection development. You can choose to follow an entire track or choose individual sessions from across each track.

The preliminary conference agenda is available at:

Lars Leon is the Head of Resource Sharing with some additional staff development and assessment responsibilities at the University of Kansas Libraries. His research and service interests focus on looking at how we can provide best service possible in an efficient manner. This has led to research from interlibrary loan group best practices to staff development and value of services provided.

He recently completed a resource sharing cost study with Nancy Kress, North Carolina State University, which can be found at His research continues looking in more detail at critical areas identified in this work. He has given a variety of presentations and workshops that has taken him everywhere from Kansas to Stockholm, Reykjavik, and Bulgaria.
