Wrong agenda I think. The file name is right but the content is for the June meeting at FLCC.

Publications Committee Report
June 12, 2018

Activities:
•   The May newsletter went out in the nick of time.
•   The committee got 2 new members! Justin Cronise from Erie and Aleshia Huber from Binghamton.

Upcoming:
•   We’ll put out a special post-conference issue if we have enough content.
•   The next regular issue is October. Call for submissions will go out in September.
•   I’m thinking about starting special issues of the newsletter devoted to single topics (OER, privacy, etc.), probably only once or twice a year. The idea still needs work so feel free to send me any ideas you may have.

Current members:
Justin Cronise (Erie)
April Davies, chair  (Cobleskill)

We are excited to report that Mandy Babirad will be joining us as our new Outreach & Public Services Librarian this summer! We stole her from Morrisville.

Meanwhile, Circulation Manager Brendan Aucoin was stolen away by Oneonta.

Don LaPlant and Brendan are presenting a poster session at the SUNYLA conference on the impact of 1:1 research consultations. Katherine Brent will also be doing a poster session on assessment of library displays. April Davies will do a Tech Services lightning round presentation on a weighted allocation formula for acquisitions.

Cathy Wise and Dawn Foland were in Corning last week for the NYSLAA conference. Based on the pictures they sent, it was a good time as well as educational.

November 3, 2017 Council Meeting @ Albany / Campus Update-Cobleskill
« on: November 02, 2017, 09:03:28 PM »
Library Dean Beth Orgeron is currently in Philadelphia for the Educause conference.

April Davies (me) leaves for the Charleston Conference this weekend. April is part of the Acquisitions working group for the Alma migration and is representing SUNYLA on the search committee for the SLC (SCLD) executive director.

The Library's annual chili cook-off was a hit once again. Librarian Peter Barvoets took the prize for Most Unique and one of the student assistants in the Circ department (Katie, culinary major) won Best Tasting. Voting was by the tasters, we had nothing to do with them winning.  :)

Our annual book sale continues until Thanksgiving break. Come visit and do some shopping. I'll even give you a SUNYLA discount.

September 18, 2017 Council Meeting @ Delhi / Campus Update - Cobleskill
« on: September 15, 2017, 12:24:56 PM »
Van Wagenen Library hosted a luncheon on Sept. 14th for Mark McBride (OLIS) to come to Cobleskill and talk to faculty and administrators about OERs.

The new entrance on the lower level of the Library is finally open and ready for use! This change provides more direct access to CASE (tutoring, etc.) and EOP, as well as our lovely Archives and Special Collections room.

The Library’s Annual Chili Cook-Off happens October 4th. Tasters will vote for their favorites in three categories: Hottest, Best Tasting, and Most Unique.

The Library’s big Fall Book Sale begins Friday, October 13th and runs through Tuesday, November 21st. Stop by and shop if you’re in the neighborhood.

Dawn Foland, part-time Circulation Supervisor and Coby grad, started Rutgers University’s online Master of Information program over the summer.

Congratulations to Don LaPlant on his recent promotion to Associate Librarian! This summer Don attended two major library conferences: the ALA annual conference and the LOEX Conference focused on library instruction and information literacy pedagogy.

The biggest news here at the library is that all the old, dying public area pc's have been replaced with brand-new machines. Brand-new, not just less-old-hand-me-downs! (we're pretty easy to please)

In people news...
Gina Brady, Cindy Maguire, & Cathy Wise are all attending the NYSLAA conference in Syracuse as I type this (June 7-9).

April Davies and Katherine Brent will both be in Stony Brook for the SUNYLA conference. And Beth Orgeron will be there earlier in the week for the SLC (aka SCLD) conference.

Don LaPlant is going to Chicago for ALA later this month.

Activities:
•   The May newsletter was posted with time to spare. This was the first issue done with InDesign so there were some quirks to iron out but otherwise the change has worked out fine.
•   Newsletter editor Sherry Larson-Rhodes is working on a style guide.
•   Jim Coan and Nancy Abashian have left the committee. Jim retired and Nancy has other commitments.

Upcoming:
•   We’re planning to do the special ‘post-conference’ edition again since it was such a hit last year (http://www.sunyla.org/sunyla_docs/newsletters/2016june-se.pdf)
•   I might recruit a couple of new members, or not. I haven’t decided yet.
